PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR EMAIL AND THE WEBSITE FOR CHANGES

For skiing, it is your responsibility to make sure your skis are waxed and ready to go at the designated time.  This means on classic days to show up at least 15-20 minutes early to ensure your skis are properly waxed.  As well, you have to provide your own kick wax.  The coaches will tell you which wax to put on your skis.

Reminder:

Z1= zone 1 – heart rate in which you are breathing comfortably enough that you can talk with your training partner

Z2= comfortable running pace where you can only say 4 to 6 words and then have to catch your breath.

Z3= sustainable race pace

Z4= higher than race pace, not sustainable for longer than 3min

Z5= sprints

from Coach Cullen.
Mono Nordic racers prevailed over very icy and difficult trail conditions at the Midland SnowDogs Race this past weekend.   Over 20 Mono Nordic racers participated in both the classic and skate ski events and several came away with medals in both techniques.    In the top three in their categories were both Graham and Alexander Maycock, Emma Perry, Anthony Burgess, Ben Sullivan, Devin Martin, Graham Perry, Quin Martin, Lindsay Santagato, Jane Ravenshaw,  and Amy Santagato.
This race is the second this season but with the largest representation by Mono Nordic’s team.  The University of Guelph Gryphons nordic ski team also train and race with Mono Nordic and had an excellent showing from their racers at this Midland race.  From here the team moves on to races in Owen Sound, Wasaga Beach, and the annual Invitational race hosted by Mono Nordic on Saturday January 28 here in Orangeville.  A select number of junior racers will also compete at Ontario Cup races in Ottawa, Timmins, Collingwood, as well as Midget Championships in Sault Ste Marie and at the Haywood 2012 Ski Nationals at the end of the season.

Thank-you to Warren and Maria for sending these pictures:

I don’t have all the details at this time.  We had athletes in the Skate and Classic events.  Our own Coach Scott completed the 20 km skate.

Kamran took 1st for the combined 20km time.

After a snowplow delay on the way to the classic event, there was a great team effort to get six pairs of skis klistered and overcoated just in time for the start.

 Sunday afternoon (Feb 27), 4:45pm on the racks outside the Pavilion.

One pair of poles was left behind after everything else had been picked up and the Pavilion already locked up for the weekend

– they looked too expensive to just leave behind, so I’ve got them in my ski bag now and will be back at the club on Sunday afternoon for Jackrabbits.  E-mail me if they are yours.
