Klister is your Friend near season’s end
Firstly, this is NOT another page on how to choose or apply klister. My purpose with this page is to point out that klister does not have to be messy, and it can let you classic ski on icy or damp mushy tracks.
I encourage you to refer to a good reference for working with klister, better yet work with someone who has experience and then get out there and try it.
The wax manufacturers’ websites have various tutorial info on how to use their products. Also, many of the ski magazines have web versions of their articles.
Klister is most effective when you know your wax and klister pocket and your skis are matched to your weight.
Keeping the klister where it belongs – put on a thin coat.

- Apply short dabs from the tube
- Smooth with a flat tool
- Thin layer
- Keep klister out of the groove
- After skiing – Clean the klister off. Put a paper towel over the klister. Use a heat gun to soften it, then scrap off with a flat tool. FInish with wax remover chemical.
